Back to the role:
What you will do:
- You will safeguard Valtech's rights and interests in the areas of labor law, employee disputes, administrative investigations, and health and safety at work.
- You lead the implementation and maintenance of Valtech’s employment law compliance programs in North America. You will also support some global company activities related to labor law.
- Manage litigation files comprehensively, including defending the company and negotiating settlements.
- Advise the company on its strategy for preventing and resolving employment disputes.
- Contribute to strategic projects that support the organization’s employment relations activities.
- Review applicable legislative or regulatory provisions.
- Analyze and address complex legal issues, prepare legal opinions, and make recommendations.
- You will be responsible for coordinating, directing, and supervising the mandates given to external lawyers, ensuring the legal quality of acts, contracts, and documents to ensure compliance with U.S. and Canadian laws.
- Collaborate with the legal team (composed of 30 colleagues!) and the Senior Legal Advisor for the Americas on any other legal tasks and/or projects.
What you should have:
- You have an undergraduate degree in law;
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience;
- You are a member of a recognized bar association in North America (USA or Canada), preferably a U.S. bar association;
- You have a good knowledge of and a strong interest in employment law and litigation;
- You are proficient with Office 365 tools;
- You speak English to support employment law cases in the United States, understand legal procedures in that country, and communicate with employees and team members located abroad. Knowledge of French is an asset;
- You have knowledge of common law, with civil law being an asset;
- You are motivated to work on regional and international projects;
- You have a good ability to adapt and learn quickly.
