#ValtechVoices: Meet Julien Martin

februari 13, 2018

Valtech’s people are the best and brightest innovators in the world. They hail from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and industries, but are connected by a shared passion to make things better and to make better things.

This month we are highlighting Julien and getting to know more about what kind of student he was, the last book he read and how he got his nickname!

Q: What has been your favourite project so far?

A: I would have to say our Innovation Lab and our first VR competition to find the new generation of VR artists in Montreal! Both were very exciting to work on.

Q: What would be your ideal working environment?

A: I like the start-up vibe of our office. We have a lot of open space, art pieces and plants everywhere. However, if we were to have the view from Mont Royal mountain (The Montreal Central Park), I would not say no!

Q: What tool or utility helps you do your job more efficiently?

A: Coffee

Q: What kind of car do you drive?

A: I’m team metro.

Q: What are you most proudest of?

A: I left France when I was 20 years old to go to Canada and start my international experience. I'm not even close to going back!

Julien’s more than just a marketing manager. He can often be found posing for photo shoots and showing off his modeling skills.

Q: What was the inflection point in your career that led you to your current role?

A: Valtech is my first job experience. I started as a Coordinator of Marketing 2 years ago, and I'm now Marketing Manager. I like having the opportunity to grow up as an individual within a company that challenges me at each career point.

Q: What is the most interesting thing about your job?

A: I learn a new thing everyday, a new tool, a new way to work with client. I love learning what my colleagues expertises are.

Q: Did you have a nickname? How’d you get it?

A: Juju - for Julien, probably cause I'm one of the youngest person at Valtech Montreal.

Q: When and where were you born?

A: Carpentras, in Provence (South of France), 1992.

Q: Favorite meal of choice?

A: Cheese, like during our French family dinner. Cheese is a plate itself!

Q: Favorite drink of choice?

A: Chateauneuf-du-pape (and Mai Tai if it comes to cocktail).

Q: What is your ideal vacation?

A: Visit the city by day, party by night!

Q: What kind of student were you?

A: The kind of student that was always ready for a drink.

Q: What are the most important lessons you’ve learned in life?

A: Always remember where you’re from.

Q: What is the last book you read?

A: The 7th Function of Language by Laurent Binet (READ IT)!

Q: What is the best advice for those about to enter your field?

A: Brace yourself, challenges are coming! Be a team player.

And that's a wrap! Stay tuned until next month's #ValtechVoices blog post to find out who we celebrate next.
