Name changes are not unheard of in the world of arts and entertainment. These changes often signify a significant change in the creative point of view of the artist. For example, Snoop Dog changed his name to Snoop Lion after a spiritual and artistic transformation, Cat Stevens changed his name to Yusuf Islam after a near death experience and subsequent conversion to Islam and Prince changed his name to an indiscernible symbol then back again.

Sitecore has gone through a similar evolution. As Sitecore reaches significant development milestones they acknowledge them with a name change. Previously, the Online Marketing System (OMS) became the Digital Marketing Suite (DMS). When personalization was fully integrated into Page Editor it became the Experience Editor and then when the Content Management System merged with the Digital Marketing System they became the Customer Experience Platform.

As Sitecore 7.5 evolved to fully embrace the term “experience”, Sitecore applied it across the platform to their numerous tools.
