Grupo Ageas Portugal partners with Valtech to accelerate digital transformation with launch of Médis Marketplace in Portugal

Created by Valtech using VTEX’s commerce platform, the marketplace gives Portuguese consumers convenient access to health insurance, products and services.

Valtech, the experience innovation company, has partnered with Ageas, the largest insurance provider in Belgium, to create Médis Marketplace in Portugal, enhancing its customer value proposition through an easy-to-use eCommerce platform. Launched in May, Médis Marketplace gives Portuguese consumers convenient access to health insurance, products and services, supercharging Grupo Ageas Portugal omnichannel offering.

Operating at the intersection of health and commerce

Grupo Ageas provides life and non-life insurance across multiple channels, including bank branches, agents, brokers and other non-traditional distribution channels. In 2023, it’s Healthcare Ecosystem operation in Portugal released a competitive RFP (request for proposal) to create an online marketplace to enhance its channel mix. Impressed by Valtech’s vision for the marketplace and its complementary ideas to deliver long-term experience innovation, Ageas selected Valtech to deliver the project.

The Valtech team completed the Médis Marketplace implementation in an accelerated timeline of just 8 months. The project started with robust research and discovery, conducted through onsite workshops at Ageas’ offices. Following this phase, Ageas handed over the development work to Valtech who built the system and trained the Ageas staff on how to run and operate the platform.

To build the Médis Marketplace, Valtech partnered with VTEX. A long-time Valtech partner, VTEX empowers experience innovation with a platform that unifies consumer experiences across all sales channels. Together, the companies have delivered over 100 ecommerce projects with composable architectures, enabling companies like Grupo Ageas Portugal to create frictionless omnichannel experiences. With Valtech’s guidance, the Médis Marketplace became the first VTEX store to integrate both Apple Pay and Easy Pay, and the first to integrate with HubSpot.

Kickstarting a long-term partnership

The Médis Marketplace is currently a minimum viable product in Portugal, with potential expansion to other markets. Ageas also plans to continue investing in new marketplace features, including telehealth capabilities and a transformative loyalty program.
