About our Design team

As part of the team you'll be working on products and services for some of the world’s most influential companies. UX Researchers through to Product and Motion Designers work in dedicated teams, anyone who has worked at a startup or in a product company will feel right at home. We are involved from planning and strategy through to execution, being an advocate for the user at every step of the way. You'll help the team to make informed design decisions, placing the needs of the user and the business at the centre of every piece of work.

About you

We are looking for a Mid UI Visual Designer with a passion for component-driven design and a strong foundation in working with design systems in Figma and branding. In this role, you'll contribute to the creation, maintenance, and evolution of scalable design systems that ensure consistency, accessibility, and high-quality user interface design across digital products.

You’ll bring solid experience in UI design best practices, with a sharp eye for detail and a deep understanding of layout, typography, colour, and interaction patterns. You're confident crafting and refining components, setting up tokens, and working within atomic design frameworks. Your work is thoughtful and systematic, and you understand the importance of consistency and reusability within design libraries.

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable collaborating across disciplines – working closely with UX designers, developers, and product teams to ensure designs are implementable and align with technical constraints. You’re confident articulating design decisions, documenting design rationale, and contributing to the evolution of a shared design language.

You should be highly proficient in Figma, especially with its component features, auto layout, variants, and styles. Familiarity with tooling for documentation (like Storybook or Zeroheight) and accessibility standards is a plus.

In this role, you will:

• Help maintain and evolve component libraries and design systems
• Work within established brand and design guidelines, while seeking opportunities to refine and improve them
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent implementation of UI patterns
• Produce high-fidelity UI designs for handoff and provide support during development
• Create design documentation and contribute to system governance and adoption

About the role

As a Mid UI Visual Designer you'll be able to confidently contribute to a project’s design activities from kickoff through to delivery. We'll pair you with other designers on projects, to both complement your skill-set and help you develop. You'll also be encouraged and supported in contributing to our Design team’s discipline.

• Contribute to the creation and maintenance of robust design systems and component libraries in Figma, ensuring consistency and scalability across digital products.
• Collaborate with senior designers and cross-functional teams to translate user needs and product requirements into clean, accessible UI designs.
• Work closely with engineers to ensure your components are feasible, well-documented, and align with technical implementation constraints.
• Support the development and refinement of reusable components, tokens, and design patterns that align with brand and accessibility standards.
• Participate in design critiques, reviews, and system governance sessions, helping to uphold visual quality and coherence across products.
• Document and communicate design rationale clearly.
• Support ongoing usability testing and iteration by translating feedback into UI refinements and improved component behaviour.
• Contribute to UI kits, visual guidelines, and usage documentation to support other designers and developers working within the system.
• Show a growing understanding of user-centred design principles, and actively seek feedback to strengthen your design approach.
• Stay curious about new Figma features, UI trends, accessibility standards, and design tooling, applying what you learn to your work.
• Collaborate effectively with product owners, developers, and UX designers, ensuring visual design enhances user experiences and supports business objectives.
• Bring an eye for detail, care for consistency, and passion for building systems that scale beautifully.
• Are comfortable taking ownership of tasks, asking questions to clarify scope, and communicating progress to your team.
• Enjoy being part of a community of designers, contributing to the culture and growth of the design team at Valtech.
