The role

Valtech is looking for a Senior Java Developer to help design, build, and evolve high-quality backend services that power modern commerce and digital experiences. You will work closely with product analysts, architects, and fellow engineers to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performing backend components. As a senior developer, you’ll take ownership of end-to-end feature delivery, contribute to architectural decisions, ensure engineering excellence, and support continuous improvement across the team. You will also mentor junior developers and help shape best practices in coding, testing, and DevOps. Your expertise will be key in strengthening our technical capabilities and accelerating backend delivery for enterprise projects.

Role responsibilities:

Develop backend services and APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and modern engineering practices.
Design and implement integrations with internal and external systems.
Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical solutions.
Write clean, testable, and maintainable code, including unit, integration, and automated tests.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in collaboration with DevOps teams.
Monitor application performance and troubleshoot issues across environments.
Review code, provide constructive feedback, and guide less experienced team members.
Collaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and cross-functional teams to refine requirements and ensure high-quality delivery.
Stay current with Java ecosystem improvements and propose enhancements to processes, tooling, and architecture.

Must have qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:

Core Technical Skills

Java 11+.
Spring Boot.
Spring WebFlux / Reactive programming.
Microservices architecture.
REST API development.
GraphQL (consumer or provider experience).
MongoDB (or equivalent NoSQL).
SQL fundamentals.
Unit testing (JUnit).
Integration testing.
API testing (Postman / Insomnia).

DevOps & Platform Skills

Git & GitLab.
CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, or equivalent).
Docker.
Kubernetes (ArgoCD is a plus).
SonarQube.
Logging & monitoring (Datadog preferred).
Understanding of cloud services (AWS ideally).

Integration & Architecture

Event-driven architectures (Solace, Kafka, or similar).
Experience integrating with enterprise systems (SAP, CommerceTools, etc.).
Understanding of distributed systems.
Familiarity with design patterns and clean code principles.

Delivery & Process

Agile / Scrum experience.
Experience with code reviews & pull requests.
Comfortable working with Jira & Confluence.
Ability to produce or maintain technical documentation.
Experience in release management or supporting deployments.

Soft Skills

Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
Good communication skills (English is mandatory).
Collaboration in cross-functional teams.
Proactive in identifying risks, gaps, or improvement opportunities.
High sense of ownership and accountability.
