Valtech and Save the Children Sweden launch new digital space to inform children of their rights

augustus 24, 2023

The new website aims to empower children with better access to resources - supporting Rädda Barnen's objective to promote children’s right to live, develop, and grow up in safety.

August, Stockholm – Global business transformation agency Valtech has partnered with Rädda Barnen, the Swedish branch of Save the Children International, to digitally advance its purpose and tackle the missing link between their helpful resources and the children they are created for. As a result of this partnership, Rädda Barnen recently launched lilla.raddabarnen.se, a new website that provides information and resources for children in need to help them understand their rights.

"We wanted an online space where we had the opportunity to communicate directly to the children, on their terms. We wanted a safe place to send them where they can gain inspiration for greater wellbeing, understand their rights and boundaries, define acceptable and unacceptable treatment and behaviors, and how to get help if they ever need it," said Douha Kermani, Project owner at Rädda Barnen.

Aimed at children between the ages of nine and twelve, Rädda Barnen’s content needed an online home that was built with this audience and their needs in mind. By surveying children in this age group, Valtech and Rädda Barnen applied insights and lessons in the decision-making and creative processes, pushing the creatives and developers behind it to think outside the box.

"We knew we wanted to actively engage the children to understand how to make the website interesting for them. Naturally, all our processes had to be adapted to the fun and less predictable environment of working with children. It was very rewarding to help create a platform with endless possibilities for the future," said Visar Ulaj, Creative Director at Valtech.

Edutainment content for kids

The main objective was to help children reach content specifically made for them in a modern and playful way, adapted to the way children consume digital content today. By diving into their fun and lighthearted world, Valtech and Rädda Barnen found that the best way to deliver information was in a swipe feed experience with high content variation. The content would be grouped into packages, which are content boxes that collect information on a certain topic, like a “how to be safe on the internet” package. This taps into the children’s expressed need for short and engaging content.

“The new site is both entertaining, informative and empowering for the children. What we can see now after the first month is that engagement is strong and time spent on the website is longer than expected,” said Douha Kermani, Project owner at Rädda Barnen*

The solution was developed on Optimizely’s platform. It allowed editors to create these packages and make consistent updates to the information presented, ensuring the children have quick access to new and accurate content.
