The role
We are seeking a Senior Spark Data Engineer to take a leadership role in designing, building, and optimizing large-scale data pipelines. This hands-on position requires deep expertise running Apache Spark transformations on Databricks to meet enterprise goals. As a senior member of the team, you will not only contribute technically, but also drive strategic initiatives, and shape data engineering best practices at an enterprise scale.
Role responsibilities
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of the data engineering domain to build and support automated batch and streaming data pipelines.

Provide consultation and lead the design and implementation of complex pipelines.

Develop and maintain documentation relating to all assigned systems and projects.

Tune queries running over billions of rows of data using Spark as a distributed compute engine.

Perform root cause analysis to identify permanent resolutions to software or business process issues.

Manage communication with project stakeholders as you develop and execute on timelines.
Must have qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:
- Proven industry experience executing data engineering, analytics and/or data science projects
- Strong/expert Spark (PySpark) on Databricks
- Hands-on data pipeline development, real world experience with orchestration tools such as Azure Data Factory (ADF) or Airflow
- Strong/expert level of experience in SQL
- Collaborative, proactive, communicative, able to work remotely while remaining engaged as a team member.
- Experience analyzing needs and designing high volume pipelines
Nice to have qualifications
- Familiarity with semantic/metadata layer tools such as Databricks Unity Catalog or Collibra
- Proficiency in big data environments and tools such as Hive, Impala, Pig, etc.
- Proficiency with cloud architecture components (AWS, Azure, Google)
- Experience leading and managing technical data/analytics/machine learning projects
- Familiarity with front and back-end web application stacks and frameworks (Javascript, HTML, CSS, React/Vue/AngularJS) and API design and usage (REST/GraphQL)
- Bachelors/Masters degree in quantitative studies including Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or computation-intensive Sciences and Humanities.
- Certifications from Databricks (specifically Certified Data Engineer Professional)

The benefits
This is a full time position based in the United States. The offered salary range is $92,000-160,000 annually, depending on experience and location.
