The role  

Valtech is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE). Role responsibilities

As an intermediate Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), you are the bridge between software development and operations. You help the delivery teams to deliver stable software fast, you participate in operations to anticipate instability, resolve unanticipated failures, improve observability and increase reliability of the systems under our management. You will work in a team of SREs of various levels, serve as an escalation level for associate SREs and in turn be backed up by your senior colleagues. You work together with multidisciplinary delivery teams in an essential DevOps way of working where your teams responsibility is to keep everyone focused on what happens on production.

  • Maintain systems for observability
  • Adjust and maintain SLOs
  • Participate and facilitate incident resolution including On Call Duty (max 1 shift of a week per month).
  • Work on proactive improvements to increase the reliability of the managed platforms
  • Work with teams to analyze anticipated or manifested failure scenarios and possible mitigations.
  • Assisting to create runbooks to remediate or prevent failure scenarios.
  • Reduce work that does not add value.

 

Must have qualifications

You are someone with 2 or more years of experience as DevOps engineer, Support engineering or Site Reliability Engineer. You know about Site Reliability Engineering, you have worked with SLOs and have had experience with incident resolution of severe incidents on high impact platforms, preferably in the context of commerce. You are a skilled scripter and know how to automate moderately complex processes. You are familiar with automation systems like GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Ansible, Chef etc. You have a solution mindset. You’re a team player and like to help your colleagues out. You have an excellent command of English and experience with working in an international setting with colleagues from different cultures.

· You have experience with incident management on a production environment of a public facing online service with high business value and preferably high traffic in a 24x7 fashion.

· You have experience in working in corporate environments.

· You have experience programming and / or scripting.

· You have a basic knowledge of serverless services in one or more public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).

· You have knowledge of and experience with monitoring systems, amongst which APM systems such as Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana.

· You have knowledge of and experience with pipelining tools, such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Gitlab, Jenkins.

· You are familiar with Docker.

· You have a good level of English in writing and speaking (At least B2).

· Have worked within the context of publicly accessible, highly available platforms.

· Have experience working in an international context with on- and off-shore teams
