From delivering the award-winning DfT Blue Badge Digital Service to supporting major Public Sector clients with our talented teams; such as DfE, the Home Office, BBC, Ofsted the Planning Inspectorate, GDS and the Treasury. We have a 25-year track record of passing GDS assessments and delivering services that millions of citizens rely on every day.
We are seeking a visionary strategist and industry leader to act as the bridge between the Public Sector’s strategic ambitions and our world-class delivery teams. This is a role for a senior leader who has "been there", someone who understands the tension between legacy estate modernisation and the urgent need for user-centred, digital-first services.
The role
As a Strategic Consulting Lead for Public Sector you are passionate about experience innovation and eager to push the boundaries of what’s possible. You bring many years of experience, a growth mindset and a drive to make a lasting impact.

Role responsibilities
- Strategic Advisory (The "Trusted Advisor" Role)
- SCS Level Engagement: Act as a strategic peer to Senior Civil Servants (SCS1/2), helping them navigate the GDS Service Standard and the Technology Code of Practice.
- Complex Problem Solving: Provide 1-2-1 consultations to help departments move from "Digital Transformation" as a concept to "Digital Delivery" as a tangible reality.
- Modernisation Roadmaps: Advise on breaking down "Big IT" silos and implementing agile, multi-disciplinary team structures within government frameworks.
- Growth & Market Development
- Pitch Leadership: Take a lead role in high-value bids via the many procurement frameworks that Valtech is positioned on, including Tech Services, DSP, G-Cloud, DOS, Big Data and Analytics and Back Office Software 2. ensuring our proposals are grounded in deep departmental context and public sector value.
- Opportunity Scoping: Identify emerging needs within Central Government, from AI-driven automation to data-sharing initiatives and digital transformation.
- Relationship Architecture: Leverage and grow an extensive personal network of senior officials, decision-makers, and policy influencers across the public sector.
- Thought Leadership & Influence
- Public Profile: Represent Valtech at major industry forums/events such as techUK, Government Transformation Summit, CGPN and influential industry think tanks.
- Content Creation: Produce high-quality whitepapers, case studies and articles on the future of "Joined-up Government" and the ethical application of technology in public services.
- Policy Shaping: Engage with bodies like the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) to help shape the standards of tomorrow.
Must have qualifications
- Government Pedigree: Significant experience in a senior digital role within the UK Government (ideally ex-GDS or a major delivery department) or a senior leadership role at a technology services provider.
- Deep Domain Expertise: You possess a profound understanding of the Government Service Standard lifecycle—Discovery, Alpha, Beta, Live—and how to successfully navigate a service through assessment.
- Commercial Acumen: A proven ability to spot market trends and translate them into successful business growth and long-term partnerships.
- Exceptional Communication: A powerful storyteller who can simplify complex technical or political narratives for executive-level audiences.
Security Requirement:
- Vetting: You must currently hold, or be eligible for, Security Check (SC) level clearance. This is a mandatory requirement for our work on sensitive and restricted government programmes.
